On February 3, 2024, we held our very first ever Charity Ball at the wonderful Billingtons in Oldham; on this occasion choosing to raise funds towards Harper’s Army22.
We had come across Harper’s story in the summer of 2023 whilst completing Tangle Wood’s garden; obtaining meal bags for the children and donating in the process from an initiative that our local garage was doing to raise funds for Harper’s treatment. Harper’sFamily needed to raise £300,000 towards pioneering treatment in America for her rare condition; Stage 4 Neuroblastoma.
After attending a couple more events in aid of raising treatment funds; I approached Harper’s parents via an event contact to discuss holding the Ball in aid of Harper. It was a very grateful Yes and we went on to put ideas into fruition.
On the night we have outstanding entertainment from our headline band Unit 7, smooth vocals from Amy Manning; my very dear friend of 20 plus years and rising star Miss Abrish Khan. Catering was provided by Kettles On Catering which was simply delicious!
Following a fantastic videography piece that Tom from Unit 7 had created for us; The Mayor of Oldham; who was in attendance; addressed the crowd with an inspirational and humbling speech, encouraging us all to help one another, we are all the same so we should not to be restricted by barriers, lean on one another, be kind and that there is always hope.
We had a big raffle, auction prizes up for grabs; including a signed Latics shirt, Manchester United signed ball, Liam Smith signed boxing glove, American Muscle Car experience and Tommy the Turtle Chocolate Tombola.
With all the activities we held and ticket sales; after expenses; we raised and were able to donate £2250 to Harper!
