Novembers Challenge Update!

On November 11 myself and mark set off at 3am on a 25mile weighted walk; after getting up at 6.45 on the day previously and not going to sleep! We were joined along the way by Susan and Abrish; stopping at war memorials and key historical places to do with the two world wars along the way.

It was a very moving and poignant journey as well as being challenging with the lack of visibility at the start, torches almost failing us and the added weight dragging us down.

As with all of our challenges; we took this one head on and finished it, together.

Upon completion, we were kindly greeted by Oldham Athletics Armed Forces Supporters and were fortunate enough to have been gifted tickets to watch the match. We also met Frank Rothwell in the supporters bar; where we informed him of our impending rowing challenge as a show of support to his own rowing venture!

We managed to raise £491.53 through sponsors and collections that weekend but with more money coming in as we speak we are aiming for £1000 to enable us to purchase a Christmas gift for the Veterans along with the purchase of at least 25 Christmas meals on their meet on December 16.

If we can appeal to anyone to contribute towards this or even colour in our festive Tommy the Turtle so that we can provide as many Veterans with a token gift and a Christmas card from all at SCCP!”

Due to the support we have received, we have been able to donate £260 to Mahdlo Youth Zone which will fund 52 annual memberships.

We have just received kind donations of bottled water for our upcoming rowing challenge; as well as biscuits towards our campaign to provide veterans with a Christmas gift; by Tesco Huddersfield Road. Thank you so much to Lenna for arranging this it is very much appreciated.
